Here’s some info about The Salvation Army Canada – a Christian church that shares the love of Jesus Christ, meets human needs and transforms communities…
The Salvation Army is an international Christian organization that began its work in Canada in 1882 and has grown to become one of the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in the country. The Salvation Army gives hope and support to vulnerable people today and everyday in 400 communities across Canada and more than 130 countries around the world.
The Salvation Army offers practical assistance for children and families, often tending to the basic necessities of life, provides shelter for homeless people and rehabilitation for people who have lost control of their lives to an addiction.
When you give to The Salvation Army, you are investing in the future of marginalized and overlooked people in your community. As the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in Canada, The Salvation Army provides unprecedented support to society’s most vulnerable.”1
The Salvation Army Canada – How they help others
As a registered Canadian charity, The Salvation Army Canada provides a wide range community services such as emergency disaster services, housing and shelters, social services, thrift stores and churches. A few highlights of the ways they help others across the country can be found below.
Emergency Disaster Services. “The Salvation Army has the ability to provide both immediate emergency assistance and long-term recovery help. Emergency response services are activated on short notice according to an agreed-upon notification procedure, while long-term recovery is strategically planned in response to the situation, through working and partnering with many other community entities.”2
“For example, in May 2016, when raging wildfires triggered the evacuation and caused catastrophic damage in Fort McMurray, Alberta, The Salvation Army was immediately on the scene providing food, hydration and emotional support to those fighting the fire. In addition EDS personnel continued to support those evacuated throughout the province and beyond and was a crucial part of the re-entry phase for months following. While people tried to resume some sense of “normal” the Army provided food, clothing, gift cards, furniture vouchers, as well as emotional and spiritual support and critical incident stress management.”3
Housing and Shelters. “In Canada, The Salvation Army opened rescue homes and shelters in 1886. Today we operate more than 50 emergency shelters across Canada & Bermuda and provide 7,300 emergency shelter, transitional and supportive housing beds each night for men, women, youth and families experiencing or at-risk of homelessness. The Salvation Army also provides additional extreme weather response beds during the winter months.
In an atmosphere that respects diversity and affirms the dignity of each individual, Salvation Army shelter programs meet basic needs by providing a safe place, a warm bed, hot meals and tools to enhance stability. Through our holistic approach, aimed at meeting the multi-faceted needs of those we serve, we supplement every shelter stay with emotional and spiritual support.
We help men, women, families and children experiencing or at risk of homelessness; we are especially concerned with supporting those experiencing long-term homelessness and facing housing exclusion.”4

Give Generously 2019 – Our Social Responsibility Campaign
Give Generously is part of our Social Responsibility program and just 1 of 18 great reasons why Canadian organizations choose us for their business insurance needs.
We are proud to deliver a different kind of insurance experience, one that is built upon three core beliefs:
- Having “skin in the game” is important
- Doing what you say you are going to do when you say you are going to do it
- Fulfilling our social responsibility to help others
One of the most important things we do is give frequently, consistently and generously. Across Canada, every ALIGNED advocate and owner believes it is a privilege to handle our clients’ insurance needs and that we also have a social responsibility. to help others in a number of ways.
Each year, a portion of ALIGNED Insurance profits are donated to a Canadian charity that is nominated by an ALIGNED client. During the Give Generously campaign, people vote by visiting web pages that ALIGNED builds to celebrate each charity and the great work they do.
Our annual Give Generously donation is made to the registered Canadian charity that receives the most “votes” which are recorded as web page sessions.
