About Great War Flying Museum – Preserving WWI Aviation History
According to their mission statement, the Great War Flying Museum is united by a shared passion, “to provide the finest local presentation of World War I aviation history by acquiring, building, maintaining and flying representations of period aircraft as well as displaying period artifacts for the education, entertainment and benefit of our members and the visiting public.”1
Great War Flying Museum – How They Help
Since 1970, the Caledon based Great War Flying Museum (GWFM) has been operated by the Ontario Aviation Historical Society as a not-for-profit volunteer member organization. In addition to maintaining extensive exhibits in a large blue hangar, the GWFM has a flying fleet of five aircraft and build projects.
“The GWFM was founded in 1970 by a group of Brampton Flying Club members. All of the founders were pilots, mostly private pilots and several airline pilots. We don’t know exactly why these gentlemen dedicated themselves to such a large and serious task except to say that they all absolutely loved aeroplanes.”2
